Mara Merek is a comedian and creator of the popular podcast Happy Never After. A native of Rockford, Michigan, and now New York City resident, Mara Marek has been married three times and engaged seven times (this is not a typo). As an avid cyclist, she has been hit by cars seven times (again, not a typo).
In 2017, Happy Never After received an influx of e-mails, and direct messages from listeners following an episode about a domestic abuse survivor. Listeners of the show reached out to Marek to share their own stories of abuse and survival and she became inspired. “I was like, ‘We have to do something’, he said, “and that’s how [Bike Laugh Heal] was born.”
Mara joined by her co-host Andrew Collin, kicked-off the cross-country bike and comedy tour, Bike Laugh Heal at the famous Caroline's on Broadway. Mara and Andrew were joined special guest comedians: Ahri Findling, Jason Burke, Tim Dillon, Corinne Fisher, and Mike Yard. Proceeds from the evening went to Safe Horizons, an organization who’s “mission is to provide support, prevent violence, and promote justice for victims of crime and abuse, their families and communities. We offer assistance to victims that includes shelter, advocacy, counseling, legal services and more. Our programs and services touch the lives of more than 250,000 children, adults and families throughout New York City each year.”
As Mara cycles across the United States, each city stop means a partnership with an organization committed to changing the lives of those impacted by domestic abuse. The goal is to raise $1 million for to prevent domestic violence and support survivors on their journey to safety, health, and laughter! Mara will be vlogging her training journey, writing a blog on the road, and updating listeners via the podcast, Happy Never After (available Tuesdays on iTunes, and Spotify).
